Life has been pretty crazy for me lately, but in the time that I've been gone I've learned a lot, seen a lot, and thankfully my faith and trust in God has continued to grow (although we all have days where we fail, believe me).
Through this season of my life I've realized that the world is full of selfish people. We may not even see it in ourselves sometimes, but there seems to be this thought process of, "If I help this person, or if I do this thing... what will I get out of it?"
"Can I gain anything out of doing this? Will giving this person this money help me?"
"If I help that woman with her kids or car will I be rewarded?"
"Can I gain anything out of doing this? Will giving this person this money help me?"
"If I help that woman with her kids or car will I be rewarded?"
Selfishness is everywhere, and this may be a hard pill to swallow but it isn't about what you can gain... it's about what you've already gained.
You've gained the love from a man that willingly died for you. He endured so much pain because He loves you so much and thinks you are precious. He completed the most selfless act EVER, for you.
Jesus specifically tells us:

Jesus specifically tells us:
For whoever desires to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it.
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world,
and loses his own soul?
Mark 8: 35-36

I've been thinking about this concept for quite some time (selfishness), and I'm always amazed that we easily choose to act in the complete opposite way He asks us to.
We're called to live out our lives like Jesus.
He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
-1 John 2:6
We're called to live out our lives like Jesus.
He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
-1 John 2:6
So what does it mean to walk just as He walked?
- Be selfless, compassionate, and love.
This doesn't mean you have to travel to a different country to fulfill what living like Jesus is like. You can do it at your workplace or at a gas station.
Jesus shared the gospel with unbelievers, and He was the living example of who God is here on earth. He didn't hold any bitterness or hostility towards people or God himself when he was called to hang on the cross. He wasn't worried about what He would lose or gain by sharing the gospel. He was obedient to His father and that's what we're also expected to do.
Although we don't have the power to reach into someone's heart and steer them towards salvation ourselves, we can be a light and share what we know about God, and He will take care of the rest.
We must be selfless, not selfish.
Stop worrying about what you can gain. Do not allow your emotions to get the best of you. You can chase money and all the desires this world has to offer but none of that will fully satisfy what your heart is truly yearning for.
And that's Jesus. He is the only answer.
And that's Jesus. He is the only answer.
Then Jesus said to His disciples,
"If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me."
Matthew 16:24
"If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me."
Matthew 16:24
Are you willing to wholly surrender your life and give Jesus full control? Are you ready to be an example to the world by giving up your selfishness to live like He did?
Be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

I hope this song inspires you the way it always does for me.
