Growing up Catholic and never really attending any services, I never had the chance to do these kinds of events and activities.
So when the time came to volunteer at my church in the children's ministry, God stirred this desire in me and I knew I had to be a part of it somehow. After attending a meeting, I was officially a part of the Fun & Games #squad!
I gained so much from that week, especially watching and worshipping alongside the children made me tear up multiple times.
Ok, first important thing to point out was the motto for the whole week at VBS that was repeated over and over again to the kids and that is to "TRUST GOD!"
There was a long line of tape on the floor with 2 orange cones at each end. We were given a lemon and a ruler. The goal of this game was to steer the lemon with the ruler from one end of the line to the other, trying your best to keep the lemon ON the line or as close to the line of tape as possible.
Some kids (even me trying it for the first time) STRUGGLED as they tried to steer the lemon from one cone to the other.
BUT there was a great message from this activity! Are you ready?
- The line of tape represented our lives.
- The lemon represented us!
- The cones represented the start of our lives and the end of our lives.
As we steered crazily at first, and veered way off to the sides, we were leaving the straight and narrow path God sets for us. We were going against God's will for our lives. Trying to stay as close to the line was HARD! The same way trying to live like Jesus is hard (but worth it). The further we were from that line, the harder it was to get back on track. The harder it is to hear God, and follow the plans He has for us.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This game impacted so many of us, it's all anyone talked about for the rest of the day. See, I've been down that road. I veered so far off of that line, that once I was way off, it was as if there were blinders keeping me from seeing how far away I was from God. It took a lot to get back to where God needed me. But as soon as I repented and let him have full control over my life again everything was set right.
So hearing the message behind that activity really reminded the children (adults included) to TRUST GOD with our lives in everything. It's important to be reminded with such a simple saying to TRUST GOD! because even though HE has all the control, He also gives us free will and the ability to choose to veer off His amazing path or make our own path that leads to destruction and sin.
So choose to TRUST GOD! and stay on his path, because the pain of regret from sins that could have been avoided is not worth a moment of "freedom and fun."
Hopefully the meaning of the game impacted you like it did for me. Below are some bible verses to remind you that trusting God is the best way to live your life.
"Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. In this manner, therefore, pray..." Matthew 6:8
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13
"For I am with you, says the Lord..." Jeremiah 30:11
"I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel" Psalms 16:7
